So, I'm updating the site after some healing and doing some nice work with my R5. This time this is some bodywork and a roll cage. In next articles I'm planing to tell you how to fit in Renault's 1,8L 16v engine from R19, built a custom fuel tank, cooling system and other stuff.
A roll cage is a specially constructed frame built in or around the cab of a vehicle to protect the occupants from being injured in an accident, particularly in the event of a roll-over. Roll cages are used in nearly all purpose-built racecars, and in most cars modified for racing.
I've put a roll bar in my R5 because of less weight and almost the same protection I would want to have. A roll bar is a single bar behind the driver that provides moderate roll-over protection. This is original CarPlan roll bar, so all I had to do is to weld some more metal to the barr-holding points and drill 12 holes. And don't forget to use Hammerite or some other similar paint on the welded metal plates and alround, because this kind of paint protects from rust and looks nice ;)
